The Yerawada police have slapped charges of criminal conspiracy and attempted murder on builder partner of the  , and arrested suspect Ganesh Chonde for allegedly engineering the attack on civic activist Arvind Kaushal.
Senior police inspector Deepak Sawant of the Yerawada police on Tuesday said that Kaushal's complaint was initially registered under sections 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt) read with 34 of the Indian Penal Code. However, further investigations have revealed that there was an intention behind attacking Kaushal and the attack was made with the help of iron bar and stick which could have proved fatal. Hence, the police have invoked charges of criminal conspiracy and attempted murder against Chonde and others under sections 120 (b) and 307 of the IPC on April 9, Sawant said.
Sawant said that investigations have also reveled that Chonde, a former employee of the construction firm, had telephoned Kaushal and had asked him to come out of his office minutes before the attack. The police have also recorded statement of an eyewitness who had seen the two suspects attacking Kaushal outside his real estate office in Kalyaninagar on April 8.
Kaushal had complained to the police that the attack on him was planned by the builder as the Pune Municipal Corporation had issued a stop work notice to an alleged illegal construction carried out by the builder at following a complaint filed by him (Kaushal).

Sawant said that was not traceable and that the police were on the look out.
The health of Arvind Kaushal, who is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Yerawada, has improved, his brother Lalit Kaushal said. "Arvind has been shifted to the general wards from the intensive care unit," he said.
